Festival of Fast Growth

Last month, Flick was awarded a regional ‘Rising Star’ gong in the Deloitte Fast50 which meant this week we got to send two of the Flick HQ crew to the amazing Deloitte Festival of Fast Growth.  This fast-paced event, presented by the very funny Jeremy Corbett, really showcased that New Zealand has extraordinary depth of talent, able to grow nimble brands into successful global businesses, with purpose and distinction. How lucky to be in a room with the fastest growing companies in the country, and the trailblazers that have gone before us!

Nic and Jurjen from our team spent the day listening to a host of inspiring speakers, including Vaughan Rowsell, Cecelia Robinson, Dan Alpe, Victoria Crone, Mike Harden, Rowan Simpson and Geoff Ross, followed by BMXing with the legendary Sarah Walker and a craft beer tasting.

Here are the Top Five tips they gleaned from the line-up of very smart Kiwi business people…

  1. Don’t underestimate the power of great content – be generous online, you get back what you put in.
  2. Set yourself high goals and run at them. Break them down into achievable chunks that add up to an amazing whole. Say ‘yes’ all the time.
  3. Customers can sniff your culture a mile off. Set those values on day one and talk about them, and their meaning, on a regular basis so they are alive.
  4. It’s really easy to ignore marketing, it’s not easy to ignore people. Make what you’re doing memorable and authentic – build relationships and connections.
  5. The most rewarding businesses are fun businesses. Always have fun.

And their favourite quote of the day, from Xero MD Victoria Crone:

(You’ll find some other gems from the day in our Twitter feed)

We wolf whistled for our Wellington friends HR Shop, ParrotDog and Xero as Deloitte counted down through the Fast50 winners, and gave an extra loud whoop for our friends at Garage Project who took out top place #CleverFlickers!

We’re excited about where Flick is heading and reckon we’ll be having a crack at the main awards next year.  Nic may have even told Garage Project’s GM, Jason Crowe (also her old boss!) to watch his back…
